Hello students, educators and the world! My name is Cynthia Timm, and I teach computers and technology to children in an inner-city elementary school in Los Angeles. my views on technology

Technology is the ideal tool to enrich learning and literacy, and to open young minds up to new opportunities and the world around us. Computers can help close the achievement gap for disadvantaged students and help motivate struggling students.

Technology is a tool, and like any tool, it must be used wisely. Students need to be educated on the safe use of the Internet, as well as how to keep their computers and other technology working properly. I am a firm believer in starting my students off right by setting rules and guidelines for computer use, and having students sign a Responsible Computer Use Agreement,and they even take a quiz on the rules and responsibilities. In grades 3 through 5, our first unit of the year is a unit on Internet Safety, which culminates in the students creating a "Internet Safety Comic" using the program Comic Life.
